Course with Elisabeth Hanke | “Time to…”

I’ve been chatting recently with Elisabeth Hanke – dramatic alto and coach. Elisabeth is highly qualified, and has many feathers in her cap as it were, including a course which she runs called “Time to…”

“Time to…” is a course which could be of great benefit to anyone, but especially performers, as well as leaders and employees. The course focusses on voice, creativity and reliable communication.

Time to…

A course in joy and freedom
by opera singer
Elisabeth Hanke

Be reliable in your communication
Your voice is your personal ’logo’. Opera and concert singer Elisabeth Hanke will help you to become aware of your abilities and to be reliable in your way of communicating. What use is a flashy Armani suit if you speak with a ’Tesco’ voice?

Purpose
The purpose of this course is to create happy and free human beings! We are allowed to play, we are allowed to have fun – everyday, but we tend to forget this in the hustle and bustle of everyday life with its many and constant demands!
However when we remember playing and having fun, we get more energy and become better employees and better leaders.
The better we feel the more we have to offer.
During this course you will discover the ’YES-energy’ which makes us happy and find out how to choose it consciously. Another aim is to be reliable and convincing when you speak or give a lecture. To achieve this we will explore your resources and learn new ways of communicating your knowledge to others.

Content and method
Elisabeth uses singing as a starting point. Sing a song to your collegues and discover how happy you will be confirming the YES-energy inside. This will probably be a challenge, and when you pull it off you broaden your mind by doing something you did not think you would be able to do, and Yes! You succeeded, and it went extremely well! By picking up the challenge and going through with it you begin a positive dialog within yourself, which in time will accumulate joy and positive energy. Most people are very reluctant about singing in front of other people, maybe because some stupid teacher told them to sit in the back and keep quiet whenever the class was singing, because ’it sounds horrible!’. It so often happens that we are stopped by other people’s choices, but we need to be seen and heard by other people!
When we learn to say YES to our own mental freedom, to choose for our selves, no matter what anybody think, then singing will be liberating and wonderful, and it will feel great to sing, speak, live, create and work with enthusiasm, enjoyment and joie de vivre. People with self-esteem who care about them selves and others are a joy to meet and be with for everybody.

Time to …

… is a course where we focus on voice, creativity and reliable communication, qualities highly in demand among employees and leaders today. A creative team is chaotic and goal-oriented at the same time. It needs space and self-acceptance. Developing human creativity is the key to  renewal and change. We will achieve this by focusing on you, your strengths and the situations in which you feel at ease.

Elisabeth will imploy different exercises like:

•Analysing your performance (singing, talking, telling stories). The aim is to make you feel good about whatever your are doing and have the feeling that it reaches your audience.

•Singing a song – Elisabeth will teach you the technique and give advise from her long experience.

•The name of this exercise is ”The power of the other hand”. We use fibre pens, white paper and ’the other hand’. See what happens …

•Training the voice, training the body, working with your breathing.

The aim is to see yourself and your colleagues in a new light and hopefully you will find that your fantasy will be liberated and you will be able to do things you were afraid to do before.

The participants will have to take active part in the course both physically and mentally. They will be expected to sing solo in front of each other, listen to each other and give feedback, if the person ’on the floor’ wants it. The whole point of this is focusing on the process you go though when you do something which feels a little bit dangerous. We will be analysing this process. The course takes the form of a mixture between workshop, lecture and active participation both in groups and alone.

Duration
Time to …
is available as 1 day courses and 2 days courses.

Qualifications and requirements
No musical qualifications are needed. The participants should bring an open mind and a song they would like to sing to their colleagues. This could be anything from ’Mary had a Little Lamb’ or ’God Save The Queen’ to ’Queen of the Nights’’ aria, an aria from Carmen, Phillips monologue from Don Carlos or whatever! Amazing Grace and God rest ye Marry, Gentlemen are lovely too. Please feel free to choose what you like! We learn form exploring the process and how we feel when we ’hit the wall’ and find a way through it – will we have to climb over it, dig under, walk around, tear it down or make a hole in it?  The possibilities and the images are individual.
We will need tables and chairs for everyone, lots of space to stand up and move about. I will furthermore need a piano for my coaching sessions.

Venue
Preferably a ’Højskole’, Congress Center or similar situated in green surroundings, but this is not a must. It is however my experience that beautiful surroundings make it easier to open up to new things and relax.

Number of participants
Maximum 12 for the 2 days course, maximum 6 for the 1 day course.

About me
I am a professional opera and concert singer and voice coach. I educated from The Royal Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. I have been active in music and theatre both in Denmark and abroad since 1984, teaches singing and has sung under some of the worlds most famous conductors. Newly released cd with the title 69-74 is available on the label Classico.

My own thoughts
I enjoy singing anything from songs from revues to Wagner – as long as it ’has got that swing’ it is relevant to me. That is to say that I have to be moved by the text or the music, and find a meaning in exploring the relationship between people or whatever the work deals with. I find relationships between people very inspiring and the way people are mixing all over the planet is both an inspiration and a challenge. To me human and personal development is fascinating since learning new things and seeing things from a different angle makes us all happier. Any good things that happen to us, we can use as fuel.
I had my debut as Orpheo at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh in 1984 and have since had the privilege of giving life to a number of characters: Fantine in Les Miserable, Robbie in RejseOratoriumRejse, Schwertleite in Die Walküre just to mention a few. The Cabaret Carmen to Cats is my own production with songs and light music. I can make Carmen to Cats fit with your needs and will be happy to have your suggestions for alternative songs, if you have any. Carmen to Cats has been performed in a number of different connections: New Years Reception in Ballerup, Vestegnens Forbrændings Board Meeting, KIOL seminar, DONG Sales Meeting, IDA, Anniversaries, Birthdays and many other events.
